Participatory Market Chain Approach User Guide

How to stimulate market chain innovations by involving different stakeholders within a well-structured and demand-oriented process

This guide is a publication of the International Potato Center (CIP - Latin America), one of the 15 centers of the Consultative Group on InternationalAgricultural Research (CGIAR), has explored different ways of working with partners in national agricultural research systems. The main objective of this guide is to present the Participatory Market Chain Approach (PMCA), which aims to stimulate market chain innovations by involving different stakeholders within a well-structured and demand-oriented process. By presenting both theory and practice, this guide should enable the leaders to apply the PMCA method in the specific context in which they are working.

This guide will help:

- Researchers and development staff to gain important insights and skills which will allow them to adapt and use PMCA in the context of their own work.
- R&D project managers and policy makers to understand plan and supervise demand-oriented participatory R&D processes that target market chains.
