This is the eighth issue of West Africa Seed and Planting Material, WASNET addresses the needs and problems in the seed and planting material sectors in West African countries and brings together seed personnel from West Africa in a structure, in order to encourage them working together to strengthen national and regional seed industry development. In this issue (n° 8 - 2001) there are three articles about roots and tubers in Ghana, addressing the following aspects: procedures for the release of crop varieties, certification of planting materials, and propagation of crops by tissue culture. Three articles are describing the cassava production in these following countries: Benin, Guinea and Togo. Two articles describe the root and tuber crops in Burkina Faso and Chad, and one is focusing on Yam cultivation in Guinea.
