Use of cassava peels: Feasibility Study for an animal feed plant

Feasibility study implemented under the RCPMI and focusing on the use of cassava peels to produce animal feed.

The study has been implemented in the context of a pilot that is under implementation in Ogun State (Nigeria) and through which 5 cassava processing facilities are being set up by the IFAD-funded "Root and Tuber Expansion Programme/RTEP". The peels resulting from the operations of the pilot (mainly from the largest of the five processing units) will then be used to produce an 8mm pellet to be sold to fish raisers.

Although the initial investment is high (due mainly to the need of importing -from India- main equipments currently not available in Nigeria), the final IRR is extremely interesting (45% - 49%, depending on feed formula produced). The IRR could be even higher if at least part of the money requested for putting in place and running the investment could be received as a grant (and not fully borrowed from banks as supposed in the study) -sensitivity analyses show.
