First electronic survey on innovation

A survey about innovation in Africa: your contribution are expected

Through this electronic survey, we would like to have your contribution by replying to (all or some) of the following questions.

First you can refer to the online summary of contributions made in the period leading up to March 2008.

- The questions

- Based on your experience, can you identify what agricultural innovations have upscaling potential for their duplication, adaptation, and multiplication on a large scale? What are the experiences and concrete success for which the gender dimension has been taken into account especially? Describe briefly the innovation while specifying: its nature, its technical aspects/elements, the problems that it tries to solve, the factors of success for its adoption, its dissemination and its duplication in other zones in the region, the constraints and problems encountered during its set-up?

- Based on your experience, what are the factors likely to limit access to these innovations? What policies are needed to promote access to innovation by the rural poor, on a local, national and/or regional scale?

- How to foster a ‘culture of innovation’ within the projects, programs, and development organisations themselves? What measures should be taken so that these actors make this a sustainable process (identification, validation, valorisation, development, dissemination /sharing)? What measures should be taken so that it becomes for them something applied naturally and systematically? And how to implement this process in their partnerships with the rural poor?

- What policies - strategies - methodologies have succeeded - or could succeed - in promoting the dynamics of innovation in the region? What are the respective roles, synergies and possible partnerships between public and private stakeholders in the fostering of innovation? Give specific examples involving for example producers, rural organizations and private companies.

How the electronic survey will work

- In order to take part, please download the survey (IFAD_Innovation_Survey.doc(V2)); once you have filled in this one, include your name - job title - contact details, and send the file by e-mail at the following: innovation@fidafrique.net
- Replies will be sent to the consultation organisers (Karim Hussein and Chiarra Calvosa – IFAD, Gilles Mersadier – Fidafrique) and processed by the moderator (Léonidas Hitimana – CSAO/OCDE).
- The answers received and the occasional summaries will be published on Fidafrique website and disseminated by e-mail.
- At the end of the consultation, a summary of the consultation will be produced and disseminated across the region. This document will be given to the participants in the next Innovation Fair & Workshop organised by IFAD and its partners.

During the process we shall endeavour to credit all contributions made to publications and summaries with your names and job titles included.
