Dimitra - Rural Women and Development

A network for information sharing and exchange

The Dimitra network is managing a very rich web site, with a lot of informations, news and documents about gender approach. www.fao.org/dimitra/

The main network activies are the following:
- working closely with local partners located in Africa and the Near East to raise awareness on gender issues for sustainable development
- collecting a body of knowledge on organisations and projects concerning rural women in Europe, Africa and in the Near East
- sharing information widely using both traditional and new communication methods and tools
- contributing to the organisation of various workshops, conferences and events on key issues determined by grassroots organisations, especially women
- creating and maintaining the on-line Dimitra database
- reinforcing the information, communication, networking and advocacy skills of civil society and women’s organisations
- promoting the exchange of information between rural women, grassroots organisations, NGOs, governmental institutions and all development actors
