Bui basin is made up of seven villages selected in January 2006 as first villages to benefit from the activities of PNDRT. In these villages concertation committees were put into place but the members did not quite understand their role in the development process of Roots and Tubers in their villages. The elected members of the seven villages were brought together in Kumbo the capital of Bui division to participate in this training. The training took place from the 26th to 28th of May 2007 in the conference hall of Banso area cooperative union. Seventy participants (60% of them are women) took part in the training.
The training made use of participatory methods which included group discussion, animation, role play, group work, plenary sessions and brainstorming. There were five main modules for the training. These included group dynamics, organisational development, structural development, financial management and follow and evaluation of activities of a group.
The facilitators were very knowledgeable and mastered the modules of the training. The trainees also understood the training and promised to restitute to their communities. It was not just a promise but an action plan to this effect was drawn and presented to all the participants for correction and validation. This action plan will be kept at the level of the village for execution. A copy was given to PNDRT for eventual follow up of the execution.
We can conclude that the village concertation committees put in the villages now understand their functions and are now apt to be able to carry them out. They are also conscious of the fact that the success of the execution of the village development plans being drawn participatively in their villages with the animation of a service provider called PRECIS depends largely on them playing their roles effectively.
The training was a real necessity for the beneficiaries. The execution of the programme will be followed up and evaluated at the level of the participants as well as at the level of the staff of PNDRT.
