Fidafrique under evaluation for new perspectives

External experts are travelling through Senegal, Ghana and Benin for the measurement of the Fidafrique performance (June - July 2007)

The overall objective of the evaluation is to determine, as systematically as possible, the relevance, efficiency, effectiveness, impact and sustainability of Fidafrique. The evaluation is assessing the achievements of the project against its stated outcomes, including a re-examination of the relevance of the outcomes and of the project design in the context of IFAD’s evolving Knowledge Management Strategy and results-based management framework. The experts are also must identify significant factors that are facilitating or impeding the delivery of outcomes. Whilst a review of the past is in itself very important, the evaluation is expected to lead to recommendations and lessons learned for the future. The results of the evaluation should enable IFAD and its partners (projects, Cooperating Institutions, and others) to assess the progress in delivery of FIDAfrique outcomes and based on this assessment, to take decisions on follow-up and future orientation.

At the end of the mission, a participatory workshop was held in Dakar from 11 to 13 July. The objective was to validate the results of this assessment and to discuss of the FIDAfrique perspectives. The Workshop have also served to identify potential interest of national, regional and international actors in engaging in / co-financing a following phase. About forty people were participated:

  • Representatives of IFAD projects in West and Central Africa
  • Representatives of national, regional and international organisations, current/eventual partners of FIDAfrique: WARF, ENDA, CTA, …
  • Representatives from IFAD (West and Central Africa Division, Communication Division, Information Resource Centre), and from Cooperating Institutions (UNOPS, BOAD).
